At One Stop Sailing we’re proud of our connection to the RNLI. Two of our staff are very active crew members of the Cowes RNLI. Above is a picture of Alasdair Boden (mid far left), our head of sales with the rest of his graduates at Poole upon his completion of the gruelling and highly intensive RNLI Crew training Course. This week it’s the turn of Heather Lambden, our Miss Money Penny/Head of finance.
The 5 day course is an intensive training course covering vital areas such as sea survival and fire fighting as well as highly technical Search and Rescue manoeuvres.
While it has cause a minor disruption we are proud of our connection to the RNLI and hope our loyal customers can bare with us through the coming season. In an ideal world they’ll never be called out, but last year our staff went on over 30 Search and Rescue operations including Round the Island which was described as the most dangerous edition of the race with over 100 Maydays and Pan Pans.

The boats we work with are incredibly good value for money starting at €2500 for a 16 berth trading barge, going up to €6800 for a 34 berth trading clipper. With Greece in economical turmoil is it safe to book a holiday there? We let you know our independent opinion with alternative ideas. For more information visit www.onestopsailing.com
We should start by saying that we have enough confidence in Greece to book a holiday there for ourselves. One Stop Sailings Alasdair has grabbed one of our great deals, £467 per person for just him and his farther, including fligths to join a flotilla in the Ionian Islands. www.onestopsailing.com/deals
If your are worried about riots and civil unrest, then you can rest assured that any civil disruption is contained to two small areas of Athens and Thessaloniki. Derek Moore, the Chairman of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO).
Moorehas this to say: “AITO’s specialist holiday companies working with Greece know the situation very well indeed and they are unanimously reporting that there is no problem except in two very small, highly-contained areas – firstly, around Syntagma Square by the Greek Parliament in Athens and, secondly, in central Thessaloniki, Greece’s next largest city. This is nothing new – it’s exactly the same situation as the past three years.”
“Tourism is one of the few industries in Greece with any potential for growth, and offers the Greeks their best chance of escaping the current financial turmoil. Greece is safe, open for business and looking forward to welcoming its overseas visitors with open arms this summer. Greece offers some of the Mediterranean’s finest beaches, cleanest seas and the unique hospitality of the Greek people.”
If you are concerned about loosing your money if a company you book with goes under then don’t worry, so long as you book through us or another ATOL protected company. When you book a package holiday with us your money goes into a trust account and annoyingly for us we or the supplier don’t get access to it till the day you come home. This means that if they go under your money is safe.
Still not convinced? Croatia or Turkey is a great alternative to Greece.
