Solent
Some might say the Solent is busy; others will say it’s sociable. The Solent is the capital of British sailing and it’s got that title for a reason, it’s a safe protected estuary with a safe marina no more than 5 miles away. Yet despite being a popular destinations it is riddled with picturesque secluded bays, creeks and rivers from Ashlett and Newtown creek to Beaulieu and Medina River.
Being the most popular sailing destination in Britain comes with its several advantages. A large selection of marinas with individual benefits, a number of exquisite restaurants and bars catering specially for sailors, some with their own pontoons, but most importantly for you the Solent offers one of the largest selections of yachts to charter in the world. From 30 foot to 130 foot, from a standard yacht to a smack or even a square sail tall ship there’s always something for you.
West Country
The West Country boasts some of the oldest coastlines in the World. The Jurassic cliffs give way to secret harbours and inlets. Hidden amongst the rocks are some of Britain’s most majestic sea side towns; starting with Dartmouth and Salcombe in the East down to Falmouth and Penzance in the West.
Although it is rugged the West Country still has plenty of safe anchorages, harbours and marinas with an abundance of yachts to charter. From modern yachts to traditional local sailing boats all you have to do is pick a date.
Wales
Wales is becoming a real cruising hot spot, improved transport links and modern facilities are starting to draw sailors to Wales in their droves. In the North there’s the challenging Anglesey Cir-cumnavigation which involves the Menai Straights, one of the best tests for a sailors navigational skills. If you fancy adding a bit of an adventure to your holiday, the highest mountain in Wales is not far from the coast!
Less than 100 miles south of the Holyhead is one of the richest areas of wildlife in Britain, Pem-brokeshire. Accompanying the spectacular wild life are some of the best beaches in Britain. Mix the wildlife, perfect beaches, rocky coastline and fantastic welsh hospitality you wonder why it’s stayed quite for quite so long!
Ireland
Need we remind you of how beautiful and sociable Ireland is? Well we’ll do it anyway!
Ireland is a true gem. While there are dozens of protected harbours and Loughs for those seeking safety, there are plenty of adventure to be found in the brisk West Coast where the Atlantic batters the cliffs to forge a spectacular barren coastline. Once in the quiet harbours you can be sure to find some legendary Irish hospitality.
Scotland
The 2 main cruising grounds of Scotland cater for everybody. For those sociable sailors looking for the infamous stunning scenery of Scotland, yet wish to stay in safe protected waters there’s the Clyde. For those adventurous sailors seeking even more breath taking backdrops in remote peaceful locations broken only by small villages brimming with the Scottish golden nectar known as whisky
Many of Scotland’s small fishing harbours have had a new lease of life as marinas and safe ha-vens for yachtsmen. This has created a large array of charter companies and sailing schools. From the modern 30 to 50 foot Bermuda rigged yachts to tall ships, adventure boats and classic yachts.
Tides
The tides around the UK are some of the strongest around the world, making for challenging conditions. You will have to have at least a day skipper practical, if not a YAchtmaster qualification to take a boat bareboat in the UK.
