Adult Beginner Courses

Set out in achievable and easy progressive steps the National Sailing Scheme can turn complete novices into a confident and competent Dinghy, Keelboat or Multihull Sailor.

Most courses are run over 2 days, but some centres combine Levels 1 and 2 in 4 or 5 day intensive courses. Below is a break down of the 3 different Levels available:

Level 1

No experience required as you learn the basics of sailing so you can confidently sail under supervision.

Level 2

After learning how to mess around on the water it’s now time to intensify the learning. From rigging, launching, capsize recovery and essential safety knowledge you’ll learn to sail in a number of directions safely and confidently. It’s fully recommended that even if you’ve had some experience you should go through Level 1 before going into the level 2 course.

Level 3

Although many centres don’t ask for successful completion of Level 3 to progress onto Advanced courses Level 3 helps build confidence in the skills learnt in Level 2. An ideal course for perfectionists!
